In 1931, a year after the opening of MLC Elsternwick, Principal Reverend John Grove signed the lease for a second branch school in Canterbury. This additional school was already being operated as a private primary school at the site of Carisbrooke in Hopetoun Avenue in Canterbury. The previous Principal, Miss Hester, agreed to continue on as Head Mistress. MLC Canterbury remained a primary school but unfortunately did not survive the Depression (ending in 1939).
