In 2001, MLC purchased Haileybury's Camp Pelican property and neighboring property Camp Wurabinda at Gippsland Lakes. Following a year of site and building refurbishment, the site is first officially used in June 2002. Between 2003-2006 further development is undertaken with the official launch of MLC Banksia taking place in 2007. The program at Banksia provides the stepping stones for those students in Year 5, 6, 7, and 8 on their journey towards MLC Marshmead.
