DescriptionFrom the Herald Sun Newspaper. Caption from newspaper has been cut out and affixed to verso: “Sponsored by the Parents’ Association of the Methodist Ladies’ College, these two English sisters, Patricia Sutton, 15 (left) and June Sutton, 13 (second from right), were met by the College principal, Dr. A.H. Wood and senior prefect Beverley Ball, when they arrived in Melbourne in the Empire Brent yesterday. The girls’ father was killed on Army service in Singapore. Their mother is still in England.” Back of photo has Herald Sun stamps dated both 17 March 1949 and 21 March 1949.

Postscript:
The sisters were given three years’ free education at MLC. Patricia returned to England after one year. June stayed until 1951, completing an Intermediate Certificate (Year 10). She was a Form Captain in her final year and was also awarded a conduct prize that year.
