DESCRIPTION

DescriptionShows two girls seated on edge of one of the trenches, this trench located in area of current Chapel car park, close to the former hospital building which can be sen in the background, as can the top of the senior boarding wing and the Tower. Trenches have wooden supports every metre or so. Girls were not identified but appear to be of senior school age. Both in uniform.

Likely taken by donor's mother, Ruth Campbell, who attended 1942-1944. Donor Judy Balcombe's accompanying note states: "There is a photo of the MLC air raid trenches, although I do not know the names of the girls. Apparently the girls had air raid practice and even some classes in the trenches. I heard the story of poor Mrs Nurse who was terrified of birds being frantic in the air raid trench when a bird came near her hair."
