DESCRIPTION

DescriptionCrowd gathered outside Girls' Block being opened shows large group of girls in open area facing dignitiaries gathered in front of the building. Clearly visible are Otto Krome (left, in robes), Mr and Mrs Krome (Centre), Lady Denman (likely - in white hat). Flags strung across playground/open area.
Girls' Block was partially funded by fundraising by students. Downstairs was a gymnasium which replaced the gym in the Diploma School next to Fitchett Hall and upstairs was a Science Laboratory. It was opened by Lady Denman. (see Bluebell Dec. 1913 for report).
In the background can be seen Justice Power's House which was purchased by Mr. Cato and became Cato House in 1924 and was demolished in 1956.
