Photo shows entire building, sparsely planted front gardens, fountain, and pathway leading from Barkers' Rd to the fountain. Two women can be seen as very small figures in front of the westernmost wing of the building.
Handwritten not on back states: "Photo taken by Mr. Mulvahney [sic]". This may be J.H. Mulvaney whose name is closely association with the Amateur Photographic Association of Victoria in that time period. It is likely this photograph was taken when the building was completed in April 1885.
Original is 16.5 x 22.4. It has been mounted on a piece of cardboard that appears to be part of a hand-lettered sign which includes the names "Fergusson & Mitchell", who were lithographers and printers.
