DescriptionThe MLC Business School was established in 1917 in response to World War I, when women increasingly entered professional roles and required specialised business training. Initially located in Fitchett Hall, the school offered structured diploma and collegiate courses focused on practical skills such as shorthand, typewriting and bookkeeping. Throughout the 1920s–1950s, it operated as a “school within a school,” expanding to include partial courses and specialist areas such as commercial art, with graduates securing employment across government, corporate and professional sectors.

From the 1970s onward, the Business School evolved in line with education reforms, adapting to the introduction of the HSC and later the VCE. By the 1980s and 1990s, it catered to students seeking either immediate employment or tertiary pathways, incorporating work experience, modern office simulation, and vocational education within the VCE framework.Date1917 -
