DescriptionThe MLC Contemporary Art Collection began with the MLC Acquisitive Art shows held in the late 1980s. The first of these exhibitions were open to anyone who wanted to submit work and they attracted a diverse range of artists. Money was raised through commission on the sale of works, activities of the Parents' Association, and funds from the College. The collection was also added to through acquisitions of prints from the school's membership with the Print Council of Australia.
From the outset, it was envisaged that the Collection would be a teaching resource - not only for the art teachers, but for other departments who might finds ways of integrating art into their curriculum. English teachers could use works to inspire writing, history teachers could use works to explore themes and issues in Australian history and so on.
