HistoryThe chapel is named after Rev Dr William H Fitchett (1841-1928) the founder and first Principal of MLC. It was officially opened on October 24, 1959. The building of Fitchett Chapel saw the fulfilment of a long-cherished hope that MLC have a fitting place of worship, to be the home of religious life at the school.
Great care was taken with choosing the interiors of the chapel, especially the stained-glass windows. The eastern window represents Jesus Christ, crowned and robed in majesty, and receiving the adoration of two groups of girls of many ethnicities. The Holy Spirity typified by a dove, and two angels descended from above. Beneath the figure of Christ is the cross and its crown of thorns on the hill of Calvary. The small windows on the North side represent lives of women in Biblical literature, and the small windows on the South side honour women from Church history. All windows were made by G. Maile & Son in London.
